Truckee Snowshoe Elopement

While Tahoe provides many gorgeous venues all around the Lake, there are many hidden gems that can be overlooked. Ruthanne Z is a photographer that specializes in adventure elopements and this gorgeous snowy snowshoe elopement was just that. But why elopements? In her words Ruthanne says “Oftentimes, when couples choose to elope, they are filled with logistical questions and are unsure of how their day will remain special, in the wake of abandoning tradition. We are tied to many ideals that sometimes just don’t fit our desires which is why elopements have become so dear to me. Couples are given the permission to follow their hearts and choose what speaks to them, and Shonna and Jason did exactly that.”

The morning of the elopement, Shonna and Jason pulled up in their awesome land cruiser and hopped out with their fluffy puppy, Bella. They were all smiles and the sun shone brightly just for them. Meredith (Ceremonies by Meredith) officiated a beautiful ceremony filled with all the right kinds of tears and joyful laughter that echoed throughout the forest. The team then made their way to Donner summit where the sunshine and bright white snow made for some absolutely dreamy photos.

Elopements are incredible, for so many reasons but the biggest one is that the day is yours. There are no schedules but your own. If you wake up late, that’s fine. You can wear whatever you want, bring your dog, or play in the snow as long as you want. It is your day.

Shortly after their elopement, Shonna shared this in an Instagram post:

“We’ve been married 2.5 weeks and I still love telling people how amazing eloping is. I totally understand people’s desire for a full wedding, but if your heart isn’t attached to it, ELOPE. It enabled us to be fully in the moment, have so much unplanned fun, get to know our beautiful officiant and photographer, roll at our own pace and move slowly throughout the day. We finished with a five-star dinner that we will never forget at @restauranttrokay, and had glowing hearts at the end of the day. Truly, we were – ARE – as happy as you see us in the photos.”
