Lake Tahoe Lodging 101: Where Should Your Guests Stay?

The venue has been booked and you have picked out your dream dress. Now the question remains: where will your guests rest their heads after your epic wedding day? A destination wedding invites guests to travel to your location and enjoy the area before and after your big event. Providing well thought out lodging options assures both convenience and access to activities that give your guests a weekend to remember, too.

North Lake Tahoe is a mecca for vacationers from all over the world, so we’re fortunate to have an abundance of amazing lodging options suitable for a variety of budgets. Offering options at or close to your ceremony/reception location can make wedding day easier for everyone and some hotels will offer discounted guest rooms blocks for weddings booked at their venue. But what if some guests may have their hearts set on lakefront hotel while you are getting married on the mountain (or vice versa)? The good news is that there is something here for everyone – read on for our recommendations!

Mountainside Luxury

The Ritz Carlton, Lake Tahoe is luxury at its best. Nestled amongst the trees mid-mountain at the Northstar California Ski Resort, the Ritz offers breathtaking views in every season. Everything here is of the quality you would expect from a Ritz Carlton property, including the service. The hotel boasts an outstanding spa – loved by locals and guests alike – and ski-in/-out privileges at Northstar in the winter. Foodies will love the dining options and delicious cocktails at the Manzanita Bar. Our favorite family-friend activity here is “Marshmology,” a curated s’mores bar roasted around the Ritz’s popular fire pits. For guests traveling with pets, two dogs of any size are welcome at the Ritz Carlton for an additional pet fee.

In The Heart Of It All

Are you getting married in Squaw Valley or simply want to share this magical village in the middle of one of North America’s greatest ski resorts with your friends and family? PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn is a boutique hotel situated in the heart of all Squaw Valley has to offer! The luxurious guest rooms here are AMAZING and the attentive staff will feel like family by the end of your wedding weekend. PlumpJack offers a world-class wine list/cocktail program and fabulous food, but the various restaurants, bars, and shops of the Squaw Valley village are also right outside the hotel’s front door. There is simply no better base camp for skiing, biking, hiking and other Tahoe activities! Bonus: dogs are not only welcome but pawsitively pampered at PlumpJack!

Family HIstory & Fun Near the Lake

Granlibakken Tahoe is a historic, family-owned and operated resort located just outside Tahoe City. Situated on a private, 74 acre wooded valley, just one mile from Tahoe City and the shores of Lake Tahoe, Granlibakken is easily accessible year-round and breathtaking in all four seasons. First used in 1922 as a winter sports grounds for the Tahoe Tavern, Granlibakken has truly been in the business of making Lake Tahoe memories for generations.

Lodging here ranges from rustic themed rooms to townhouses for larger groups. Onsite, guests can enjoy a ski and sled hill, yoga, cycling, and the TreeTop Adventure Park, one of the most unique ropes courses you will ever experience!

Lakefront Lounging

Looking for a stunning mountain lodge along the shores of Lake Tahoe? The Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe, located in Incline Village, Nevada, offers beautiful, comfortable rooms and rustic-chic lakefront cottages. Ask any Tahoe local and they’ll tell you: the Hyatt is the epitome of the perfect Lake Tahoe lakefront resort. An incredible beach, the Lone Eagle Grill, an amazing spa, and spectacular sunsets all await your guests at this iconic North Lake Tahoe location. Pets are welcome at the Hyatt except in tower rooms.

Home Sweet Home

For guests who would prefer a home-like atmosphere over a hotel, both Northstar and Tahoe Donner offer a wide range of conveniently located lodging options, from luxury vacation homes to one-bedroom condos… as well as a whole host of family-friendly activities. Tahoe Donner’s creekside campground is a fun and unique way to accomodate guests who want to experience the great outdoors

We are also big fans of Base Camp Tahoe, which is located in the heart of Tahoe City (can it get any better?!). Base Camp Tahoe is a quick walk to the lake. Your guests can easily venture out on Tahoe, or any of the amzing hikes the area offers, check with the staff on what their favorite activites are, they may have some secrets up their sleeve your guests don’t know about.

Wherever you suggest your guests rest their heads, you can’t go wrong with these amazing options.
