Lake Tahoe: A Ski Town

Here at Tahoe Unveiled we do what we do, where we do it because we like to have fun in the mountains just like you. While we think every season is a good season, this winter in particular has been off to an amazing start. As of the 21st of January 2019, Squaw Valley is claiming 257 inches so far this season! With so much snow, you really can’t go wrong but we are here to give you some insider information. Here are some of our favorite places to hit the slopes around the lake.

Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows

Home to the 1960 winter Olympics, the game of GNAR, and many other notable ski events, Squaw Valley is the place to go if you want to “send it.” With a large variety of steep terrain, Squaw Valley is the place to go if you’re an advanced skier looking for a challenge. The bonus about buying a pass to Squaw Valley is that you get two for the price of one! Alpine Meadows is just a short bus ride away from the Squaw Valley village. It’s a little bit quieter, a little bit mellower, and a little bit closer to the lake if you are after those views!

Homewood

Shhhh! Homewood (in our opinion) is the best kept secret of the West Shore. While it’s a bit smaller than some of the other resorts, smaller does not mean less when it comes to terrain or powder! If you are looking to get away from the crowds and ski good snow while having unparalleled views of the lake, Homewood is the mountain for you. We aren’t kidding when we say you may even feel like you’re about to ski into the lake! Make sure you check out the mid mountain lodge (pictured below) as a great place to pop your skis off, enjoy a beer or hot chocolate, and take in that Lake Tahoe Blue!

Northstar

Looking for a family ski trip getaway? Look no further than the fun, family friendly mountain of Northstar California. Not only does Northstar have the best village in the Tahoe Basin (check out the ice skating rink) but the slopes are perfect for skiing together as a family. They also have the best terrain park in the Tahoe Basin if you’re looking to get your adrenaline up and get your feet off the ground!

Heavenly

With gorgeous views and steep terrain, Heavenly is the best of both worlds. With 97 trails ranging from wide-open cruisers to plunging chutes, Heavenly really does have it all. Located in South Lake Tahoe, they not only have a great mountain, but there is so much to do in the surrounding area! From fine dining to dive bars and the liveliest night life in Tahoe, there are many options for après after you’re done hitting the slopes. Fun fact about Heavenly: you can actually ski over the state line between California and Nevada, making it the only place you can ski two states in one day!
