The wedding of the year and perhaps the biggest wedding event since Prince William wed Kate Middleton, is just around the corner. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have had the royal spotlight on them ever since they announced their engagement last year, and the whole world is waiting to see what this power couple does on their big day. If you’re like us and love anything the royal family does, we are here to tell you there are ways of incorporating royal traditions into your wedding, no royalty required.
The Wedding Cake: Per royal tradition, it is common to serve fruitcake instead of a fancy tiered cake that we might find in a traditional American wedding. However, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have announced the royal wedding cake will be a lemon and elderflower cake covered in buttercream and fresh flowers with the goal of incorporating the flavors of spring.
Vows: Royal weddings are full of tradition and one of these traditions includes reciting the traditional vows that have been spoken by every king and queen for centuries. You can find these vows and incorporate parts of them into your own personal vows at your wedding.
Fancy Hats: One of the biggest fashion trends we are sure to see is the plethora of hats and hairpieces worn by the women attending the wedding. A royal tradition and as important, if not more important, than the dress selection. If hats are not your cup of tea consider a headpiece or take this tradition into another part of your wedding such as your bridal shower. If you have a photo booth add some outrageous hats, hairpieces and don’t forget the tiaras!
Pageboys: Or as we call them; ring bearers. You can be sure to expect Prince William and Kate Middletons two children to be a part of the ceremony most likely in the roles of a Pageboy and a flower girl. This is a tradition we in America share with the Royals and it’s a great way to incorporate your younger guests into your ceremony. Any role you can give them will make them feel important and connected to your big day.
Music: Harry and Meghan have been very active in choosing music for their service and have chosen a gospel choir and a cellist to perform at the ceremony. This is something you could easily incorporate into your ceremony and live music is romantic and beautiful. Traditional hymns will most likely be sung at the royal wedding but get creative with your music choice and have a choir sing you and your partners favorite song.
Flowers: With Meghan and Harry getting married in spring they are trying to use flowers and plants naturally blooming in May, and follow a natural wildflower theme. It has been reported that locally sourced white garden roses, foxgloves, branched of beech from the gardens of Windsor Great Park and Peonies (which are Markle’s favorite flower). While you might not be able to get beech from the gardens of Windsor Great Park, all of these flowers are lovely are sure to be featured in many weddings following the royal wedding.
