Get to Know: Meghan Ruiz Ceremonies

There’s something magical about being a wedding officiant and Meghan Ruiz brings a unique blend of presence, passion, and professionalism to the art of officiating. She loves to honor a couple’s unique story, personalizing the wedding ceremony experience. Meghan is also a mom, a yoga teacher, and co-owner of Truckee Yoga Collective. In this post, we get to know Megan a little better, including a peek into her very busy and inspired life!

What brings you the greatest joy in your life?

I receive great joy from being outdoors, in nature, preferably with my family.

What brought you to Tahoe?

I was born and raised in South Dakota and when it was time to decide on colleges, I wanted to go as far west as I could! My mom and I flew out my senior year to visit the University of Nevada, Reno, and when I saw Lake Tahoe, I fell in love! The rest is history.

Tahoe lifestyle: winter or summer?

Both! I love skiing with my family but we also love swimming in lakes, camping, and hiking.

If you weren’t a wedding officiant, what would you do?

I really am a yoga teacher at heart. Not only do I love teaching yoga classes, I love yoga education, such as workshops and teacher trainings.

What inspires your work as an officiant?

Love!! I want to be instrumental in laying a foundation for not only a memorable wedding day, but a happy, healthy marriage.

How would you describe the perfect day in Lake Tahoe?

There’s nothing better than a boat ride on Lake Tahoe.

What are you most proud of?

That my husband and I have always had the privilege to balance work with our family. We have never had to rely on daycare and if we needed help with childcare, we were able to depend on our family. I am so grateful that I have been able to experience all my children’s milestones and as they grow up. We are available to them when they need us.

Who inspires you the most?

Empowered women who are living the life they desire – whether that is career, family, fun and/or all of the above!

What is your life motto?

Believe in your (damn) self!

What was the most recent thing that made you laugh?

On our drive up to the mountain to ski, two (of my three) kids and I were in the car and we were stuck in traffic. The car in front of us had a bunch of younger guys who were throwing snowballs at their friends in the car ahead of them. My boys could not contain themselves and begged to throw snowballs at them. We had a full out snowball fight on the 89 as we were at a stand still. I laughed so hard! Those kids were not expecting a mom and her kids to be joining in on the fun!

Working in the wedding industry is not for the faint of heart. How do you rest and rejuvenate?

As a wife, mother and entrepreneur, I do a LOT. As much as I love all that I do, I know that I require alone time. One thing that helps me rejuvenate is to be outside, exercising.

What is something people might not know about you?

I am a self-taught henna artist!

Pets: Any four-legged friends in your home?

Oh yes! We have a dog named Harley, a cat named Grandpa Kitty, and a bearded dragon named Peaches.
