Get to Know Blue Sky Events

Today we’re highlighting our friends and most fabulous planners, Blue Sky Events! If you’re on the hunt for the perfect planning team to partner with for your wedding, we highly recommend them.

Tell us about your business. What do you do and what makes it special?

Blue Sky Events is a full-service Lake Tahoe wedding and event production company! Our team thrives to make every event run seamlessly and beautifully! We are celebrating 20 years of business this year and are consistently growing and learning; our team stays up on the latest trends and industry favorites.  Our company is quite dynamic including,  destination wedding planning, event production for large-scale events, fundraisers, corporate incentive groups, and concerts. We have partnered with several venues over the years as their in-house production and event management team including Valhalla Tahoe, Northstar, Heavenly Mountain Resort, and Desolation Hotel Hope Valley, to name a few. Recently we’ve acquired a sister company where we offer lakefront ceremonies in South Lake Tahoe that we are very proud of, called The Arch at Lakeside Beach.

What would you like to share with future couples?

Have fun with your planning! Incorporate your personalities into the design of your wedding and trust your professional vendors to bring your vision to life! Second and most importantly spend time writing your vows. If you don’t feel comfortable saying your personal vows during your ceremony in front of all your guests, take private time during your wedding day to read them to your partner. This day is about your love and the two of you coming together;  make every moment count.

What brings you the greatest joy in your life?

Spending time with my husband and two sons in nature. We love to hike, camp, backpack, mountain bike, skiing / snowboarding ( probably my favorite!)  and going to the beach! Being with my family outside in the beautiful mountains of Lake Tahoe brings me the greatest joy!

What brought you to Tahoe?

In a spontaneous, 12 hour decision  I drove across the country with my sister and a friend for a summer break when I was going to the University of Pittsburgh. I fell in love with the mountains, hiking and swimming in Lake Tahoe every chance I got. I was inspired by the Tahoe friends I met that were living their passions and life to its fullest! I met my now husband that summer and after a snowboard trip in the winter I was sold! I moved to Tahoe the moment I graduated college! My brother and sister moved close by and luckily we have other family members that like to visit a lot!

What is a must-see hidden gem in Lake Tahoe?

Once I get to know you, I’ll fill you in! 😉

Describe Lake Tahoe to someone that has never been here.

As you drive over the mountain and see Lake Tahoe for the first time it will take your breath away, you’ll never forget the first moment you see it. The pine trees are the tallest you’ll see  with an evergreen smell everywhere you go.  You’ll wake up to crisp thin air in the morning and in the summer the warm sunshine in the afternoon will encourage you to take a refreshing dip in the lake.  In the winter months it will snow several feet and then the sun will come out so you can enjoy a beautiful blue bird day on the slopes!  In Mark Twain’s words “The fairest picture the whole earth affords”

Tahoe lifestyle: winter or summer?

I spend my days off at Kirkwood Mountain Resort in the winter. My husband and I are full time owners of our business;  taking fun time off together to snowboard once a week is an important part of our time together! Our boys grew up on the ski teams at Kirkwood, learning about big mountain skiing and snow safety! I even worked as a snowboard instructor in 2020 / 2021 during the pandemic when we weren’t busy planning events. That was a fun job!

If you were not a wedding planner,, what would you do?

If I were not a wedding and event planner I would be a nature photographer.

What inspires your work?

The amazing people I get to meet from around the world and share Lake Tahoe with! I am also inspired by my team and the staff we have hired over the years. I’ve gotten to know some of the most incredibly talented people that way!  I  learn from each of my staff and am amazed to see them grow and flourish in their wedding and event careers.  We are always open to bringing on interns and people interested in this career. An inspiring story is, our very first employee we hired 17 years ago, she was 19 years old just out of high school, continued her event career, studied hard and got her MBA. She was eventually hired by Google marketing,, she then hired our company to help her plan events, we traveled all over the West Coast with her! It was incredibly rewarding to see how far she had come and how much she had grown.

What is a fun fact about your company? One summer we built a 6000 person stadium for Hard Rock Hotel Casino and produced several concerts one summer including Ice Cube! He was so fun!

What’s the most useless talent you have?

Assistant Basketball Coach for my son’s rec league team … I’m more of a cheerleader than a coach!

What is the closest thing to real magic?

Rainbows

What is your go-to activity to do outside of work?

Snowboarding, hiking, camping, being a mountain bike shuttle for my boys!

What kind of wedding guest are you?

As a guest, I have so much fun being present and enjoying every moment. I was fortunate to do a ceremony reading at my cousin Erin’s wedding in Philadelphia and my son was the ring bearer a few years ago!

Any song you can add to our brides’ and grooms’ budding wedding playlist?

PINK with Chris Stapleton – Love Me Anyway

Working in the wedding industry is not for the faint of heart. So how do you rest and rejuvenate?

Paddleboarding on the lake and laying in the sun on the beach 🙂

What is something people might not know about you?

I went sky diving when I was 18!  The company I went with did not do tandem jumps,  so I jumped out of an airplane by myself and the lines to the shoot were twisted. I didn’t panic, I just thought I’ll untwist them as if I’m on a playground swing. After several over head pulls, the lines untwisted and I got the enjoy a beautiful float to the ground. Luckily that worked! 🙂

Any four-legged friends in your home?

No four legged friends now, but I used to have a dog named Harpua, he was the sweetest  100 pound wolf / malamute dog you’d ever meet!
