Katie and Griggs tied the knot at the historic Rainbow Tavern & Lodge set against the breathtaking landscape of the High Sierras. And their bohemian wedding is just too gorgeous not to share!
Their love story began in college. The couple met on the central coast and began dating in San Francisco seven years ago. Katie is from Truckee originally, so the two enjoyed heading up to the mountains often to visit family and enjoy the outdoors. Although Griggs is from Marin, he also grew up going to Tahoe every weekend in the winter for the Alpine Meadows ski team and fly fishing in the summer/fall. And even though the duo has lived in Sausalito for the last couple of years, Tahoe has always been considered home.
When Griggs popped the question in 2019, there was no doubt about where the wedding would take place. They envisioned a late summer wedding in the mountains. So the couple’s photographer, Holly Shankland, introduced them to Rainbow Tavern & Lodge. After their first visit, they knew that this rustic fishing and ski lodge was the place for them. Unfortunately, COVID-19 delayed their wedding a year. Still, the lodge managers and, thankfully, every vendor they hired were extremely accommodating and reserved the future date for the couple without hesitation.
Looking back on the wedding weekend, Katie described it as a dream. The lodge offered the couple access to all amenities for the entire weekend, and guests could stay on site. The weekend consisted of a welcome gathering on the Friday before the wedding and a farewell brunch on Sunday, masterfully catered by North Tahoe Catering. The wedding itself came together beautifully with the help of wedding stylists Lucky Burro, planners Events by Daydream, and florist Love & Lupines. “They transformed the lodge into a rustic, medieval, bohemian-style wedding in the woods. It was a magical event full of love, and it was made all the more special taking place in the beloved Tahoe National Forest,” said Katie.
