I just don’t even know where to begin with this Martis Camp wedding. There are the unbelievably beautiful images that our dear friend Catherine Hall captured. The stunning, mountainous backdrop. And the décor—developed in conjunction with the inimitable Heather Spear of Summit Soiree—that echoed this deep sense of connection with the surrounding woods. Throughout the day’s various locations and events, rough-hewn wood was a primary design element that was thoughtfully complemented with bright purple and orange flowers (Julia, the bride's, favorites). I also must mention the food provided by D’lish Catering which looks outrageously delicious.

Despite both growing up in the quaint California town of Petaluma, Julia and Seth never chanced to lay eyes on one another until about five years ago. Mutual friends had been prodding the two to meet one another, and they finally did–but, as Julia puts it, “On our own terms.”
The rest, as they say, is history. From the moment of their first meeting, the couple’s affection came fast, strong, and deep. The first time that Seth professed his feelings for her, he put it succinctly: I’m crazy in love.
It wasn’t until November 2010 that Seth proposed, while he and Julia were vacationing with his family over the Thanksgiving holiday in Maui. “He asked if I wanted to go for a walk before we went to dinner with the family, because we hadn’t gotten much alone time together,” Julia says. “We started our walk as the sun started to go down and things went from being very normal to being very strange once Seth asked me to wear a blindfold. He walked me down a hill to a little beach and asked me to remove the blindfold. In front of me was a huge heart in the sand and the words Marry Me written in beautiful flowers.
When the time came to prepare their wedding, the pair forged ahead by sharing the planning equally. Learning about Seth’s care and contribution to the planning process impressed me enormously. The two strove to create an event that reflected their uniqueness as a couple with a celebration that was simple yet classily elegant.
They selected the gorgeous Martis Camp as their venue. This luxurious setting includes over 2,000 acres of pristine land just beyond the High Sierras and Northern Lake Tahoe. Julia and Seth demonstrated incredible reverence for the forested backdrop and abundant natural wonders in the Martis Valley.
Julia explains that their wedding day—which they assumed would fly by and be but a tangle of memories—instead passed slowly, steadily, and with sense of peaceful joy. She particularly recalls two memories: the first look, when they beheld each other and the world around them essentially came to a gorgeous halt. With tears and smiles, Seth and Julia embraced one another. Another poignant memory is the first kiss, after they had been declared husband and wife…despite Seth fumbling over his vows!
