Taylor and Alan’s elopement high above Emerald Bay immediately brings a dreamy and romantic past era to mind. From the groom’s burgundy dinner jacket to the bride’s corset-back, off-the-shoulder mermaid gown, we can’t help but conjure the spirit of Mrs. Lora Josephine Knight who, in 1929, built the iconic Vikingsholm castle at the tip of this scenic Lake Tahoe bay.
This sweet couple met in the Southern California desert, while Alan was stationed there in the Marines. And while they currently live in Texas, Taylor has fond memories of camping trips to Fallen Leaf Lake in South Lake Tahoe with her mom, who has since passed away, making Tahoe the perfect destination for their special day.
Blue Sky Events planned this elopement especially with Taylor and Alan’s friends and family in mind. The couple and their intimate group of guests hiked to the ceremony site, where they swapped out sneakers for more photo-friendly footwear. Thran’s Flowers created a timeless bouquet and floral crown for the beautiful bride.
Following the ceremony, everyone took a somewhat harrowing (and hilarious) high-altitude SUV drive down the mountain to an elegant outdoor reception at Tahoe Paradise Park, on the banks of the Upper Truckee River. A “memory chair” was included at the head of the table to give an honored seat to those no longer living who undoubtedly would want to be there.
