A Prep-School Meet Summer Camp Wedding at Squaw Valley

Sean and Geoff are East Coast natives who met in Cambridge, Massachusetts. After 13 years together, they tied the knot during a festive, five-day “wedding meets summer camp” celebration in Lake Tahoe.

The couple lives in San Francisco and Sonoma, making frequent winter trips to Squaw Valley, so a Lake Tahoe adventure wedding with opportunities for hiking, boat trips, biking, and golfing was a perfect fit.

Memories of summer camp, hunting lodges, and the classic preppy style of Maine and the Cape came to life in a modern “Moonrise Kingdom” vibe. Sean and Geoff even commissioned an artist to design a “camp” flag that was flown at each daily wedding activity.

The festivities culminated with a ceremony onSquaw-Alpine’s High Camp deck, overlooking the grand Sierra landscape. Sporting custom madras dinner jackets, made by the Artful Gentleman in San Francisco, along with Sperry’s and shades, Sean and Geoff perfectly captured the “prep school/yacht club” feeling of their New England youth.

Friends of the couple, Mark McCullough and Ariel Sutro, of design and events company Partners and Sutro, created a wedding celebration full of inspired details – from a vintage phonograph playing before the ceremony and woodsy-camp themed tablescapes to matching Nantucket red shorts for the junior attendants and marching band.

Following the ceremony, the wedding party, guests, marching band, and even the cake made their way down to the Squaw Valley Lodge for a reception. Drawn to the boisterous and celebratory occasion, visitors at Squaw village came out to hear and dance to the music – some even following Sean and Geoff into the party.
