Butter + Salt is a husband and wife team. Aubrey came from the west (Gardnerville, Nevada), Tyler came from the east (Bradenton, Florida) and they both met at The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. After both graduating from CIA (Aubrey with a Bachelor’s Degree in Culinary Arts Management, Tyler with his Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts), they trained in various areas in New York. Aubrey received her Sommelier Level I Certification by the Court of Masters Sommelier and worked as a teaching assistant and manager of the Caterina de Medici restaurant. Tyler trained at Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Tarrytown, New York and became a Certified Beer Server by the Cicerone Certification Program. Together they opened Butter + Salt in Lake Tahoe in 2013 to bring their refined experience to the mountains. Butter + Salt is known for crafting unique menus, sourcing seasonal and local ingredients and providing sophisticated service.
“Aubrey and Tyler are not only an absolute pleasure to work with — but they are also first-in-class at what they do. The entire process was truly exceptional. They responded instantly to my inquiry, answered all questions, and supplied a custom-designed menu that blew away our guests. The food was tremendous and tailored perfectly to each guest. Each course, comprised of all our favorite hand-selected items, impressed us more than the last. Aubrey & Tyler truly went above and beyond to make this memorable experience and we can’t thank them enough.”

“Our experience with Aubrey and Tyler O’Laskey exceeded our (high) expectations, and we absolutely plan to use them again in the future. The couple was so accomodating, from making the trip from Tahoe to be here for our New Years Eve party, to adjusting their dishes to suit our requests. We hosted a party of ~13 people and asked Aubrey to serve heavy appetizers to be paired with beer and wine tastings. In a city like San Francisco where we have access to some of the most incredible food in the world, it’s not easy to be blown away by a spread of heavy hors d’oeuvres. Yet every single guest at our party was completely amazed and enamored by each of the 8 dishes prepared by the O’Laskeys. Highlights included baked camembert in puff pastry with roasted grapes, sage-threaded potato chips with goat cheese dip, and the most incredible to-die-for zeppole that I’ve ever had. And each was expertly paired with a beer or wine chosed by the couple. As a bonus, Aubrey and Tyler are some of the frendliest, most down-to-earth, and least-pretentious chefs we have had the pleasure of being around. Everyone loved them and I only regret that I didn’t ask my guests to give them a round of applause before they left. I couldn’t recommend these two more highly–hire them and you won’t be sorry!”

“I was so excited to get married at beautiful Tahoe but so lost on picking food (the most important part of the wedding). I hate regular wedding food and the idea of eating rubbery chicken or pesto pasta salad made me feel like I would rather go to City Hall and hit In-n-Out on the way back instead of paying thousands of dollars for mediocre food. I was even going so far as to pay for someone to come from San Francisco. Then I found Aubrey and Tyler. They are the most wonderful and warm people I have ever dealt with. They normally are private chefs for fabulous parties, so I was a-wishin’ and a-prayin’ to sweet baby Jesus that they would consider cooking for our wedding of 150 guests. To my complete delight, they agreed to meet me and we set up a tasting. LET ME BE CLEAR – I AM SOMEONE WHO SPENDS HALF HER MONTHLY TAKE-HOME PAY ON EATING OUT AT FABULOUS RESTAURANTS. These two are bananas…like INSANELY good. My fiance and I were practically licking every plate clean and were sold instantly. I have had meals that cost hundreds of dollars that couldn’t touch these dishes. Their food was not only delicious and inventive, but also the most stunning plates I have ever seen. Everyone knows you eat with your eyes first, and I probably could have been happy just looking at the plates they were so gorgeous. Everything tasted exciting and new, but also had some element that was warm and familiar. We both agreed then and there that it didn’t even matter if they changed the whole menu the night before the wedding, we would put complete trust in them to feed us anything they wanted and knew it would be so far superior to anything else we had tasted. I love the food, I love the people, Yelp needs a higher star rating for exceptional companies like this.”

“What an experience! Beyond what we even imagined. Aubrey was exceptional from first contact, through menu planning and execution the night of our small family dinner. No doubt the pedigree of these chefs is top notch, but Aubrey and Tyler’s ability to create an exceptional experience truly sets them apart. Their skills goes far beyond culinary expertise to include how to host and even how to entertain. They managed to be able to focus on their multiple dishes all while being peppered by questions from us throughout. There is something so much more special about having an incredible meal cooked for you at home as opposed to a restaurant and Butter+Salt truly understands this. If you are looking for a special event or special gift, Aubrey should be your only choice to take over your kitchen.”
