This may be surprising, but wedding gowns have only been traditionally white since Queen Victoria’s special day 160 years ago. Pre-then, brides wore all sorts of colors. Having chosen to have a unique Lake Tahoe wedding, why not wear a unique dress that speaks to the surroundings?

Instead of choosing the mermaid cut that looks as though it’s made of one seamless piece of lace, try dresses that incorporate crochet, embroidered flowers (that often call for pops of color), subtle sparkles and sequins, tiers (for added flounce), deep v-necks, feathers, raised hems (to show off shoes), choker necks, waist belts, and shimmery adornments. As per sleeves, there’s sheer, puffy, off-the-shoulder, cape, and the list goes on.

“Unique” when paired with “wedding dress” may raise dollar bill signs in your eyes, but special-looking dresses don’t have to be designer; rather, they can be more affordable, and they’re likely to be something you will wear again and again.

Here are 6 places you can find the indie dress that’ll speak volumes to your personality and your Tahoe wedding, and that’ll make your day feel that much more yours.

Traditionally, when the words flowers and weddings are used in the same sentence our minds immediately go to bridals bouquets and table centerpieces. Floral trends, and specifically summer floral wedding trends, have recently expanded their reach far beyond their original realm and into more unique venues.

We have compiled a list of 4 of these seemingly non-traditional ways to incorporate flowers into you summer wedding, because lets be honest: is their anything more summery than fresh flowers? EVERYWHERE!!

1-Bridal Party Dresses
Over the years we’ve seen trends where bridal parties wear different style of a dress in the same color, or dresses in variations of the same color tone. This summer we are noticing a trend in floral bridal party dress, often the same shape, as seen in this image, but in different colors of the same floral scheme. We love this trend for your summer wedding!

2- Hanging Décor
We gravitated toward this beautiful summer floral wedding décor specifically because of the simple, mostly white table centerpieces. That way, your eye is immediately drawn to the hanging flower arrangements. By hanging your flowers from the ceiling you are able to incorporate more color than you originally thought possible, without being too overwhelming.

3-Floral Hair Pieces
This flower hairpiece is a new take on the ever-popular floral crown. We especially love the idea of having the bridal party wear their bouquets in the hair, rather than carrying them down the aisle.

4- Invitations
The beauty of using a floral invitation theme is that each element of your invitation can have many or as few flowers as you want. We practically loved this invitation set because they were able to use the floral theme without going overboard. For example, the RSVP cards have only a few floral notes, while the event invitation and envelope are stunning and loaded with beautiful pink flowers.

Many of us associate twinkle light with college dorm rooms and patio decor but we’re here to tell you that they can be the perfect final touch to your outdoor wedding. The ambiance created with the soft light given off by these tiny bulbs is hard to match and makes for a cozy, yet sophisticated atmosphere.

There are so many different way to incorporate these lights into your wedding, be it draping them in a canopy over your guests, using them as centerpieces, wrapping them around tree limbs, or even haphazardly hanging them behind your cake or welcome station — you will not regret adding twinkle lights to your outdoor wedding decor.

2016 Wedding Style and Trends

Spring has sprung and we’re ready for all of the beautiful weddings that are to come! For the bride, finding the dress is something she’s dreamed of since her Disney Princess days, and 2016 is sure to be a year of dream worthy gowns, glamorous accessories, and beautiful hair and makeup. Curious to see what’s coming down the aisle? We teamed up with one of California’s most sought after wedding stylists, Krystel Tien of Elle Bridal Boutique & Couture Events, to get the scoop on this year’s wedding trends. Check out some of her 2016 wedding style predictions below:

Mismatched Bridesmaids Gowns

“Traditionally, perfectly matched bridesmaids have lined the bride’s side at the altar, however, the trend of mismatched gowns seems to take the stage (or altar) these days. Switching up the cuts, lengths, and shapes of bridesmaid dresses is a great way to add personality to each bridesmaid while remaining cohesive through the matching color scheme. 2016 is sure to see this new, modern way to personalize wedding fashion.”

Hair Jewels

“They’re luxe, they’re modern, and they add that final polished, yet playful touch. We are all for pairing them with a perfectly placed bohemian bun. Jewels around your neck will always be timeless, but jewels in your hair are a new, unexpected twist on a wedding accessory.”

Open Back Dresses

“Open back anything has been all the rage in the past few years. Something about the conservative neckline and awe of an exposed back screams classy and sophisticated, yet utterly sultry. The modest high-necked front of a dress, with a low dipping back makes such a statement. It’s perfect for pictures and walking down the aisle!”

Post in collaboration with San Diego’s most sought after wedding stylists, Krystel Tien, owner and founder of Elle Bridal Boutique & Couture Events, turns brides’ dreams into realities. With over 7 years experience in the bridal industry and having planned weddings for reality TV royalty and NFL CEOs, it’s safe to say Tien is quite the expert in the bridal world.

Although I woke up this morning to a white blanket of snow, the mini daffodils in the yard are starting to peak their way through. This gave me the inspiration to focus today’s blog post on the most gorgeous spring flowers and what meaning they have at your wedding.

Peonies | Known as the flower of riches and honor. With their lush, full, rounded bloom, peonies embody romance and prosperity and are regarded as an omen of good fortune and a happy marriage.

Anemone | Thought to bring luck and protect against evil, legend has it that when the anemone closes its petals, it’s a signal that rain is approaching. mythology connects the anemone to magical fairies, who were believed to sleep under the petals after they closed at sunset. Perhaps it’s because of this magical and prophetic tales that today in the language of flowers, anemones represent anticipation

Daffodils | Symbolizing rebirth and new beginnings, the daffodil is virtually synonymous with spring. As the 10th wedding anniversary flower, a gift of daffodils is said to ensure happiness. But always remember to present daffodils in a bunch – the same legends that associate this cheerful flower with good fortune warn us that when given as a single bloom, a daffodil can foretell misfortune.

Ranunculus | Celebrated for its medicinal properties as well as its bright beauty, ranunculus ranges from white to pink, red to yellow to orange. In the language of flowers, a bouquet of ranunculus says, “I am dazzled by your charms.”

Top 5 Wedding Trends for 2016

Like the fashion industry, the wedding business is ever-changing. The must wear and must-do trends to make your dream wedding special for your guests almost change with the seasons. There are five wedding trends that anyone planning a wedding should consider to bring that extra element to their guests.

Adventure Weddings. With the rise of #liveauthentic and adventure photography, I believe there will be a shift in locations for weddings, more camp-, outdoor-, or travel-themed locations.

Specialty Linen Napkins. This is a new statement piece that can help the overall feel of your special day. This design element gives you a lot of bang for your buck and adds such ambiance to any setting

Lighting Galore. The key to setting a romantic mood? Ambience. “Every couple wants to create a more romantic and intimate environment,” says Los Angeles–based event designer Trish Stevens of Classic Party Rentals. “Wedding lighting is the best — and simplest — way to establish both.” Event designers say they’re using more pendant lights with bare “Edison” bulbs, chandeliers (both vintage and modern) and candelabras to cast a soft glow.

Same Day Edit. Sharing has become such a hot commodity, so more couples are valuing the short highlight films that are easily shared online. Take it one step further and show your video the day-of at your reception, while everything’s still fresh in guests’ minds. The fully edited film comes later.

Desserts Other Than Cake… and Infused with Alcohol. Of course everyone gets wedding cake. But, by the time you dance all night, more dessert are a must. That’s why alcoholic-infused desserts are becoming a hit. Ideas include Fudgy Bourbon Balls, Grapefruit Pomegranate Champagne Sorbet, and Zeppole with Caramel Whiskey Sauce.

Mountain Wedding Invitation Ideas & Inspiration

Living full-time in the mountains, we love to embrace our culture and style. For couples looking to marry in the mountains of Lake Tahoe, we suggest incorporating the unique feel of your wedding into your wedding invitations. To get your creative juices flowing, below are some of our favorite mountain inspired stationary suites.

These screen printed invitations for Briana and Jason’s wedding weekend in the mountains feature awesome illustrations and hand lettering – all without taking themselves too seriously.

Mountain Wedding Invites We Are Brainstorm

This couple was married at an elevation of 11,500 feet, high up in the mountains of Keystone, Colorado. Their outdoor summer wedding is a nature lover’s dream. The venue is truly rustic and romantic, surrounded by mountain views and open sky. Guests had to hop on a chair lift to reach the lodge ceremony site. The designer used illustrations to help capture the picturesque surroundings and the mood of their unique wedding weekend.

Our next set of wedding invitations comes from Molly at Paisley Quill and was created for a Vermont mountain wedding! Molly dove into the rustic wedding theme with a nature-inspired color palette, a fold out map, and fun envelope liner. Whimsical calligraphy from Lettered Life and vintage postage completed this rustic invitation suite.

This invitation suite was letterpress printed in charcoal gray ink and accompanied by a reproduction of a vintage postcard that included additional wedding invitation on the reverse side. Accents of moss green and chartreuse were brought in as accent envelopes for the thank you card and rehearsal dinner invitation. An aspen leaf motif was carried through all the pieces, from the reply card to the chalet inspired monogram.  As well, the mountain imagery was carried through to the day-of paper with program booklets (designed to fit inside the coat pockets of male guests), menus, and escort cards.
