This may be surprising, but wedding gowns have only been traditionally white since Queen Victoria’s special day 160 years ago. Pre-then, brides wore all sorts of colors. Having chosen to have a unique Lake Tahoe wedding, why not wear a unique dress that speaks to the surroundings?

Instead of choosing the mermaid cut that looks as though it’s made of one seamless piece of lace, try dresses that incorporate crochet, embroidered flowers (that often call for pops of color), subtle sparkles and sequins, tiers (for added flounce), deep v-necks, feathers, raised hems (to show off shoes), choker necks, waist belts, and shimmery adornments. As per sleeves, there’s sheer, puffy, off-the-shoulder, cape, and the list goes on.

“Unique” when paired with “wedding dress” may raise dollar bill signs in your eyes, but special-looking dresses don’t have to be designer; rather, they can be more affordable, and they’re likely to be something you will wear again and again.

Here are 6 places you can find the indie dress that’ll speak volumes to your personality and your Tahoe wedding, and that’ll make your day feel that much more yours.

Blair Nadeau Millinery 2017 Collection

We are in love with Blair Nadeau and her stunning new collection of hair accessories and bridal adornments ‘Celestial Wanderer’. An exquisite range inspired by yesteryear but created for today’s modern brides, featuring modern rose-gold headpieces, heavenly vintage veils, divine statement necklaces & shoulder adornments, garters so beautiful you won’t want to take them off and even a few deliciously alternative black creations.

The shoot is, if possible, almost as beautiful as the pieces themselves! Full of natural light with an ethereal almost Edwardian feel, it is full of romance, and the fine art photography of Whitney Heard is just flawless. Ladies you will most definitely want your pinning finger ready before scrolling any further…..

Each piece is designed and created by Blair herself in her Toronto design studio to maintain the highest level of quality and craftsmanship possible, creating heirloom quality bridal art that can be passed down for generations to come.

Established in 2009, Blair Nadeau uses traditional techniques applied in a modern fashion to create timeless pieces. And when you see them, it will come as little surprise to learn that her designs have, over the last 8 years since launching, been worn by celebrities, featured in Vogue, graced the covers of numerous magazines, appeared on countless top wedding blogs and are regularly worn on the hit television show REIGN! So, if you weren’t familiar with Blair’s name before, you surely will be after seeing this vision of bridal perfection!

“Upon designing this collection, we discovered ourselves. Our history, our past and our future. As we gaze off into the stars, it is our wish that each of our brides can also discover themselves in our adornments and look forward towards their own future with warmth, love and discovery.”

“Recently, a dear friend discovered her roots again after a pilgrimage of sorts to her home country of the Ukraine. She brought back spoils and riches from her culture, traditional dress and craft, and it inspired us.

We saw the love in her eyes as she spoke of her history, the warmth in the textiles she held tight in her hands and the pride she had for a home she never truly knew until now. We saw in her smile, that there was a world of love out there dedicated to their craft, their textiles and their treasures and we wanted to embody that love for home in our 2017 collection.”

“We truly scoured the world to find these inspired riches and transform them into little works of art. Rich golds, blackened silvers and antiqued rose golds warm the palette. Dark rich ebony fit for royalty creates a sense of intrigue. The softest tulles from Scotland create cascading flowing veils edged with embroidery and corded lace from Latvia, shrouded in mystery.”

Traditionally, when the words flowers and weddings are used in the same sentence our minds immediately go to bridals bouquets and table centerpieces. Floral trends, and specifically summer floral wedding trends, have recently expanded their reach far beyond their original realm and into more unique venues.

We have compiled a list of 4 of these seemingly non-traditional ways to incorporate flowers into you summer wedding, because lets be honest: is their anything more summery than fresh flowers? EVERYWHERE!!

1-Bridal Party Dresses
Over the years we’ve seen trends where bridal parties wear different style of a dress in the same color, or dresses in variations of the same color tone. This summer we are noticing a trend in floral bridal party dress, often the same shape, as seen in this image, but in different colors of the same floral scheme. We love this trend for your summer wedding!

2- Hanging Décor
We gravitated toward this beautiful summer floral wedding décor specifically because of the simple, mostly white table centerpieces. That way, your eye is immediately drawn to the hanging flower arrangements. By hanging your flowers from the ceiling you are able to incorporate more color than you originally thought possible, without being too overwhelming.

3-Floral Hair Pieces
This flower hairpiece is a new take on the ever-popular floral crown. We especially love the idea of having the bridal party wear their bouquets in the hair, rather than carrying them down the aisle.

4- Invitations
The beauty of using a floral invitation theme is that each element of your invitation can have many or as few flowers as you want. We practically loved this invitation set because they were able to use the floral theme without going overboard. For example, the RSVP cards have only a few floral notes, while the event invitation and envelope are stunning and loaded with beautiful pink flowers.

The One Wedding Hair Style You Must Try

Think of your hair as a lovely accessory full of possibilities. For your bridal coif, why not venture off the beaten path and create something super romantic yet a touch whimsical. We love the milkmaid braid. Although they look super complicated they are actually one of the easier braids to master and add a touch of bohemian romance. Top your bridal braid off with a gorgeous flower and you will be the most lovely bride in sight.

Today’s editorial from Antonova Kseniya is the perfect example of why we love this milkmaid braid.

One glance at the gowns on the Haute Couture runways in Paris, and you’ll believe in magic. With thousands of beads sewn on by hand, the most luxurious fabrics money can buy, and designs worthy of a place in the Louvre, Haute Couture gowns are as enchanting coming down the aisle as they are coming down the runway. So tell us, which of these looks would you want to steal for yourself? Here are 4 gowns we’d be more than happy to wear at our wedding (if we have the chance to do it all over again, same hubby of course!).

From the color of the year, radiant orchid, to deep amethyst, emerald green and ruby red, jewel toned bridesmaid dresses are the perfect addition to a Lake Tahoe wedding.  We love the idea of outfitting your bridesmaids in a style idea instead of just one color, and an array of jewel colored bridesmaid dresses are just it. These rich tones are especially nice when paired with an earth tone or neutral wedding, where the colors really pop!

Alfred Angelo, America’s oldest and foremost bridal company, debuted its magical 2017 Disney Fairy Tale Weddings bridal collection yesterday during the start of New York Bridal Fashion Week. The 2017 collection will feature two new designs inspired by Disney Princess characters, Mulan and Ariel, along with two special edition fairy tale gowns to its already popular collection of nine Disney Princess inspired wedding dresses.

The stunning wedding gown inspired by the story of Mulan, is designed with tulle over charmeuse and features a sweetheart neckline with a sheer yoke, mandarin collar, and a dramatic keyhole back with self-covered buttons. The new 2017 collection of 13 stunning gowns is infused with the latest trends in runway fashions, and epitomizes the strength and unique personality of each Disney Princess for a bride’s own “…happily ever after.”

“We are excited to have two powerful and brave heroines serve as an additional source of inspiration for the Disney Fairy Tale Weddings collection this year,” says Bill Pesce, Head Designer at Alfred Angelo. “Their independent spirits, diverse story-telling and strong personalities are characteristics that modern brides can relate to.”

In celebration of  25 years of Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings & Honeymoons, the collection sparkles like never before with the inclusion of two limited edition gowns adorned with precious crystals. Inspired by Disney Princess characters Belle and Cinderella, these legacy dresses are styles which have been much-loved the world over. In 2017, these two designs will be remastered with new and elevated details, more luxurious fabrication and embellished with opulent crystal beading. These gowns will be available for a very limited time and on tour at trunk shows across the country before returning “back to the vault” at the end of 2017.

Pearl buttons and a voluminous ruffled skirt with horsehair trim and a chapel length train finishes the gown.

The gown features a softly-draped skirt and a detachable rhinestone and silver-beaded sash that sparkles with the fire of her determination and intelligence.

Cinderella: Timelessly beautiful ball gown that glitters with the romance of Cinderella’s magical night. Every single thing in the Anthropologie-inspired bridal collection BHLDN–the name refers to the Dutch word behouden, meaning “to keep”–incorporates a surprising fine detail. From a horsehair-style hem, which creates a softer silhouette, to the delicate boning in an inner corset, these touches are all part of an effort to make a woman feel like something more than a cookie-cutter bride. “We want to give our bride an heirloom-quality wedding gown,” Coralie Stanton, the brand’s design director and Vera Wang alumna, says of the new line.

The main attraction, of course, is the gowns, which range between $1,000 – $4,000 and are designed with alterations in mind. For those seeking an even less traditional look, there’s an opportunity to, as Stanton notes, “build your own wedding dress or second dress” thanks to a selection of separates.

They didn’t stop at the dress. The BHLDN collection also includes jeweled headpieces, veils, antique jewelry, footwear, and lingerie–not to mention serving pieces, decor, paper goods, cake toppers and gifts.

The ultimate goal is to give creative power back to the bride, whether she wants a dress whose vintage feel will mesh with a hairpin that belonged to her grandmother, or bridal party clad in the furthest thing from a uniform. “We’re always inspired by tradition,” Stanton says, “but for now we’re turning it on its ear and letting the bride adorn herself.”
