D’lish Catering and PlumpJack Win at the Autumn Food and Wine Festival

If you’ve ever been to Northstar’s Autumn Food & Wine Festival then you know it is an amazing weekend filled with the best food Lake Tahoe has to offer, paired with some of the best California wines. We are excited to announce that Tahoe Unveiled wedding vendor D’lish Catering won Silver for Best Food and PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn chef, Ben “Wyatt” Dufresne, won the Blazing Pans Mountain Chef Cook-Off .

From D’lish Catering Chef/Owner, Lee Kresy:
I have participated in this event every year since it started in the Safeway parking lot. This year we created an hors d’oeuvre of seared diver scallop on won ton crisp with lemongrass and sriracha aioli and micro herb salad, paired with Viluko Winery’s 2013 Sauvignon Blanc. The inspiration came from the crips sauvignon blanc and what would accompany such a nice wine on a warm September day.

Chef Lee Kresey on pairing food and wine:
Choosing a wine and food pairing is more of an art than a science. General rule of thumb is to choose similar flavors, similar food and wine compliment each other, choose similar weights and textures, and same sweetness levels. Crisp wines balance salty flavors, sweeter wines offer relief from spicy foods. For instance sole with lemon sauce and Sauvignon blanc both have citrus flavors or roasted pork with apple glaze pairs nicely with reisling, red meats match with merlot, Cabernet and Syrah. While ahi tuna goes well with a Pinot noir or another light bodied red wine.
